High Altitude Gardening began for Richard in 1955 when he and Patsy
built a cabin on Bluebird Lane at 8500 feet above sea level in Colorado.
Where most folks settle for indigenous plants, Richard grows lush lawns
and coaxes blooms out of granite. Years of experimentation and precise
record keeping have led Richard to the optimum time for planting. The
results of Richard’s garden are displayed by his daughter on note cards
suitable for framing. Now, the beauty of Richard’s handiwork can be
